This small place with a harbor on the southwestern tip of the island is a pure industrial settlement. On the one hand, the fuel for the island's diesel power stations is landed there at Clifton Pier on South West Road, and on the other hand, one of the electricity-generating systems has been built at the same location and has been continuously expanded since then.
The island's brewery is also nearby. The Commonwealth Brewery has been brewing its own beer called Kalik under European management since 1988, and Heineken beer has been bottled there under license since 1985.
A good 2 km to the east is the only larger hotel on the south coast with its own golf course. Both have been closed for years for renovation work.
Albany
To the east of Clifton is Albany. This is a development project by Ernie Els and world class golfer Tiger Woods. Together with the investment company Tavistock, a boutique hotel with a beach club, riding school, mega yacht harbor and an 18-hole golf course with grill and bar is to be built there. This is one of the reasons the South Ocean Beach Hotel has not yet been renovated and reopened.

In the street
Clifton is in the southwest corner of New Providence. You can drive there from Nassau along the north coast via Cable Beach, Gambier and Lyford Cay. You can also drive south from Nassau and then take the path to Clifton via the small villages of Carmichael and Adelaide.
Tourist Attractions
- Clifton Heritage National Park, South West Bay Road. Tel.: 1242 362-5360, Fax: 1242 362-5017. To the west of Clifton Pier is the Clifton Heritage National Park. At the southern entrance you will find the ruins of a plantation house from around 1780. At the northern entrance there is a wetland, which can be explored on wooden walkways. Hiking trails lead from one entrance to the other, and a shuttle bus runs along the road. There are toilets in different places. You can swim and have a picnic on the beach.
