Cochamó is a fjord village in the Región de los Lagos in Chile. The place is west of the Carretera Austral and achieved through the excellent hiking opportunities in the Cochamó valley increasingly of tourist importance.

getting there
By bus
Buses run several times a day from Puerto Montt above Puerto Varas to Cochamó. The bus journey takes just under 2 hours.
In the street
The place is about 100 km away from Puerto Varas on the V-691. The road coming from the north is paved except for the last 12km.
To the south the road is mostly just a very bad gravel road Caleta Puelche (approx. 70km) to the Carretera Austral is connected.
By boat
At the moment, contrary to what is noted on many maps, there are no longer any scheduled ferry connections to Cochamó (status 03/16).
mobility
The valley entrance into Cochamó valley is about 13km from the village, 8km off the main road. Many locals offer taxi services there. Costs approx. CLP 1,500 p.p. .

activities
The place is the starting point for tours in the Cochamó valley. Already well known by climbers, it is also becoming increasingly important for hikers.
Kayaks can also be rented on site for independent trips on the fjord. Boat tours in the fjord are also offered.

The Mercado Franic on the coast offers the largest selection of wines and spirits. There is a bakery right on the main street.

There are a few restaurants and snack bars on the main street and in the church area. (Smoked) salmon, from the surrounding aquaculture and other seafood are particularly common. There are even empanadas filled with it.

- Tourist Information. The tourist information is located directly on the main street above the church.
- Post office. A post office is located in a small kiosk that is directly on, but slightly above, the main road. This is between the tourist information and the police.
The provider "Entel" offers good telephone and Internet reception (3G) on site.
