Understand
The Costa Verde ("Green Coast") is the area surrounding the conjoined Bays of Ilha Grande and Sepetiba, with Ilha Grande occupying a position between them. It was an area of great importance in the colonial history of Brazil, and today many of the towns have a well preserved historic downtown. That, in combination with beautiful mountains and beaches, plus 365 islands in the twin bays, attracts a great many tourists, both weekender locals from Rio de Janeiro and travellers from across Brazil and around the world.
