In the following years Csongrád was deserted for some time due to internal divisions between the settled Magyars and the trade routes were shifted in other directions. The time of the Turkish sieges from 1591 lasted until the liberation around 1686. Later, after the Second World War, the city regained importance and the economy could gradually be restarted.
