Interesting places

One of the best is the Laguna, close to Djerba Explore, which has incredibly clear blue-green waters. Here you can do water sports and the locals offer camel or horse rides (DT 10 for a ride up and down the beach, longer rides possible and the price is negotiable). The beach restaurant (the only one) serves grilled fish and other dishes for about 10-15 DT per person. The ride from Houmt Souk costs approximately 10 DT.

Visit the Ras R'mel peninsula, rent a bike (almost impossible to find) and visit small villages; on the way passing typical local architecture, rural tranquility and beautiful sunsets. Try fresh, tasty fish; go to the local fish market. Don't miss the Turkish Bath. Visit jewelers and admire silver Bedouin jewelry.

A great spot to watch beautiful sunsets is on the northwest side of Borj Djillidj Island before turning left to Ajim. The quiet little harbor and the lighthouse is a place to meet fishermen who still catch octopuses with the help of clay pots and return at sunset with their catch. The most quiet and peaceful place that certainly inspires.

Transport

Public transport is limited, but taxis are available at reasonable prices; you can rent a bike or motorbike but be careful as most roads are narrow!

Shopping

Textiles, spices, dates, sponges, traditional clothes, drums and ceramics.

In souks, bargain and don't be afraid to negotiate by giving up to a quarter of the asking price.
