Djibouti - the capital and largest city of the African state of Djibouti. It is situated at the entrance to the Gulf of Tajura, south of the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

It is a large commercial and fishing port. It has a well-developed petrochemical and food processing industry. The country's largest trading center. It mainly handles Ethiopia's foreign trade.

The city was founded in 1888. In the years 1892-1977 it was the capital of the French Somaliland colony. From 1977 the capital of independent Djibouti.
