Dolný Kubin is a town with about 20,000 inhabitants and is located in the Orava area in Slovakia. One of the most famous Slovaks, the writer/poet Pavol Orszagh Hviezdoslav, was born here (in Vyšný Kubín, now an independent municipality). Dolný Kubín is also known for the winter sports opportunities on the mountain Kubínska hoľa, which has one of the longest and widest ski slopes in Slovakia.
