The park area is characterized by young glacial relief - moraines, ravines, small rivers and numerous lakes, which are the greatest attraction of this area. In the Drawski Landscape Park, seven nature reserves have been designated, in which, inter alia, a lobelia lake ("Czarnówek Lake" reserve), breeding grounds for water and marsh birds, peat bogs with refuges of rare mosses and the most attractive landscape of the upper course of the Drawa River with lakes surrounded by hills, covered with beech forest ("Five Lakes Valley" reserve). The park's flora and fauna are very rich; there are numerous protected species, incl. Pomeranian honeysuckle, golden-headed lily and belik, red kite and lesser spotted eagle.

Lakes

Drawsko Lake

The lakes are a great attraction of the Park. There are 47 of them within the borders of the DPK, and 30 in the buffer zone. The largest of them and the second deepest in Poland are Drawsko lake (area 1871 ha, maximum depth 79.7 m). The lake owes its unusual shape to the activity of the glacier, which shaped the entire Drawskie Lakeland. The multi-arm shape and considerable depth of the lake were caused by the fact that centuries ago it was here that several glacier troughs converged and a strong postglacial erosion (subglaciation) took place. There are five huge bays on the lake: Henrykowska, Głicka, Czaplinecka, Kluczewska and Rzepowska, and seven islands. Among them, the fifth largest inland island in Poland - Bielawa. The banks of the lying 128 m above sea level The lakes are exceptionally varied, from wet and marshy in the vicinity of Stary Drawsko, to steep and uplifted several dozen meters above the water level in the vicinity of Varilag, which offers a picturesque panorama. The clear waters of the lake, the Drawa River flowing through it (from the Drawsko Lake, the Karol Wojtyła canoe trail, which ends near Krzyż, almost two hundred kilometers begins) and the diversified shape of the bottom make Drawsko a paradise for anglers. It is here that the legendary 28 kg pike was caught.

The largest lakes of the Park also include: Siecino, Komorze, Wilczkowo, Żerdno and Krosino. The most valuable in terms of nature are lobelia lakes, characterized by the presence of relict vegetation and very clean waters. These include: Czarnówek, Kapka and Leśniówek.

Flora and fauna

Lake Żerdno

The park is also rich in flora and fauna. Its flora includes species characteristic of Atlantic, Arctic, Boreal, mountain and southern vegetation. Over 40 species under legal protection have been found, including: laurel, round-leaved, intermediate and long-leaved sundew, spotted, blood, broad-leaved and Traunsteiner orchids, common fern, Pomeranian honeysuckle, golden-headed lily and European coppice. The large diversity of the park's biotopes creates favorable conditions for many animal species. There are over 30 species of fish in lakes and rivers. Water and water areas are conducive to the existence and nesting of many species of birds, especially wetlands. You can often see swans, grebes, ducks, cranes, herons and cormorants here. Extensive forest complexes are a refuge for birds of prey, incl. white-tailed eagle, red kite and lesser spotted eagle. Among the mammals, beavers are numerous in the area of the National Park.

Worth seeing

  • Drawsko Landscape Park with its buffer zone has a rich history and high cultural values. Due to the abundance of waters and forests, the DPK area has always been an attractive settlement area since the beginning of time. The oldest traces of human presence in the Park come from the Palaeolithic and Mesolithic. Traces of the earliest settlement have been preserved in the form of settlements. The most legible are the early medieval settlements in: Popielewo, Brzękowice, Stary Koprzywno, Połczyńska and Sikory, Old Drawsko, on the peninsula of Lake Komorze, in the vicinity of the village of Piaseczno, and a conical settlement at the northern edge of Lake Prosino. Among the archaeological monuments, the skeleton cemetery in the area of the village of Gronowo, entered in the register of monuments, deserves special attention.
The ruins of the castle in Stary Drawsko
  • The ruins of the castle in Stary Drawsko they are located 7 km north of Czaplinka, on the road to Połczyna-Zdrój, on the isthmus between Lakes Drawsko and Żerdno. Stare Drawsko has a long and interesting history. Already in the 7th century, on the site of the present castle ruins, there was a stronghold surrounded by wooden and earth ramparts. The original name of the town was Drahim. At the end of the thirteenth century, the settlement was in the hands of the Knights Hospitaller. In 1366, the Joannites sold the goods and together with them the previously erected castle in Drahim to Casimir the Great. At that time, the Drahim castle became the seat of the Polish starosty, the farthest on the edge of the Brandenburg-Pomeranian forward Polish administrative and military post. The castle was seriously expanded during the times of Władysław Jagiełło. Over three centuries - until 1668 the castle was the residence of the Polish starosts. It was burnt down during the Seven Years' War (1756-1763) and, not rebuilt, fell into ruin.
Historic palace in Siemczyno
  • The industrial revolution of the 19th century had a great influence on the landscape of the park. Replacing half-timbered construction with red facing bricks with ceramic roofs fundamentally changed the appearance of villages and cities. At that time, large brick production plants were built in Złocieniec, which are still operating today. The guesthouse buildings of Połczyna Zdrój, which is worth seeing, also come from this period. In the Park, attention is drawn to the 19th-century churches, built of locally available broken field stone and brick. Their form is reminiscent of late Romanesque and Gothic churches. Objects of this type can be found, among others, in: Łubów, Kluczewo and Stary Drawsko.
  • The farm layouts found in many villages of the Park are very interesting. The manors are situated between the park and the farm part, the main façade facing the courtyard with outbuildings on both sides. The most interesting of them are: Brusno, Kocury, Popielewko, Cieszyno, Uradz and Luboradza.
  • The impressive one is also worth visiting palace and park complex in Siemczyno. There are clear regular elements characteristic of the baroque premises: a beautiful hornbeam alley, linden alley, a garden study and a very legible indenter.
