Geographical notes
The fourth largest island of Turks and Caicos. The island is covered with ponds, lakes, swamps and mangroves inhabited by flamingos, wild ducks and pigeons.
The highest point of the Turks and Caicos archipelago is right in East Caicos; the Flamingo Hill with a height of 156 meters.
Background
It would appear to be the first island Columbus arrived on before reaching America on October 12, 1492.
In 2004, a marine archeology expedition found a shipwreck off the island.
