background
East Griqualand goes back to that Griquawho settled in South Africa in the 19th century. in two areas. The Griqua emerged more or less unintentionally from the connection between the immigrant Boers and the peoples originally native here. These were them Khoikhoi, divided into the sedentary HottentotsSan and in the Bushmenwho lived as nomads. The common children of Boers and Khoikoi usually grew up with the whites, spoke their language, knew their religion, knew how to use tools and weapons, but they were thus excluded from the society of both their fathers and their mothers. As a result, the Griqua banded together and founded their own tribes and, in some cases, their own states. East Griqualand was one of those states it was founded by Adam Kok and was only independent from 1862-1879.
