getting there

By plane

The nearest airport is in San Carlos, see below for how to get there.

By boat

Of San Carlos Boats leave for El Castillo several times a day. The landing stage is diagonally across from the bus terminal, right next to the market and a petrol station. So that you can go on the first boat of the day, you should book the day before.

mobility

Everything is within walking distance. There are no cars. The fortress is a bit above, but the route shouldn't be a problem for most of them.

Tourist Attractions

The Spanish fortress that gives the town its name (and can be seen on the green 10-Cordoba plastic note) is well worth a visit. The entrance fee is about two dollars, cameras another dollar on top.

The eponymous Spanish fortress towers over the village. The flags are the blue, white, and blue of Nicaragua and the black and red of the ruling Sandinista.
