El Oro is a province in the southwest Ecuador.

El Oro (the gold) is an economically very strong, but historically insignificant region in southwest Ecuador. There is not much to see in terms of tourism, the natural vegetation has largely been replaced by shrimp farms and huge banana fields.

- Machala, industrial city in transition. Some pretty but artificially spruced up parks. * Port "Puerto Bolivar". Obviously bears the title "World Capital of the Banana", really every access road is surrounded by gigantic plantations.
