Erldunda - Erldunda

Erldunda is a tiny town in Red Centre of the Northern Territory.

Understand

The village describes itself as a superior roadhouse and has a population of just 50 people. A lot of people pass through it because it is the turn-off from the Stuart Highway (Darwin to Adelaide) to the Lasseter Highway for Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Alice Springs is roughly 200 km (120 mi) away, and Uluru is 250 km (160 mi) away.

Get in

Due to its location, there is only one way to get to Erldunda — via road. Any vehicle that is registered can travel on the road. Some of the most interesting arrivals have been 'racing tractors', the Variety Club Bash cars (a charity event) and every year various V8 Supercar transporters stop to use the facilities on offer, as they make their way from Victoria to Darwin.

Buses between Alice Springs and Adelaide will also stop there.

Get around

See

Just next to the roadhouse is a big shelter that is fenced off. On closer inspection it is home to a massive Echidna and Frill Neck Lizard, which were used in the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games opening ceremony.
