Fermont is a mining town located in the north of Quebec to Canada. Its infrastructure makes it unique, including in particular the “Wall”, a long building serving as a screen against the north winds. It is a popular destination for hunting and fishing. However, the city is isolated and it is extremely cold in winter.
Understand
Fermont is located in the regional county municipality of Caniapiscau in the region of North Coast to Quebec. It is part, with Wabush and Labrador city to Labrador, from the Labrador Trough, a vast mining center from which iron ore is extracted, hence the name Fermont. The city stands out with its main building, Place Daviault, commonly known as "Le Mur". It brings together the main shops and services of the city in addition to housing a good number of accommodation. It includes a grocery store, a post office, primary and secondary schools, a hotel and various sports facilities. The building measures 1,5 km long and 50 m from above. Its nickname is no coincidence, because the building actually serves as a wall protecting the city against strong winds from the north. It also aims to allow its residents not to have to leave the building in winter.
