The Suvarnabhumi Airport is about 30 km east of Bangkok at Bang Phli in Samut Prakan Province, Thailand.
background
The name "Suvarnabhumi Airport" was determined by King Bhumipol Adulyadej and means "The Golden Land". The foundation stone was laid on January 19, 2002, and the opening was on September 28, 2006. The airport replaced the outdated Don Mueang Airport (DMK), which now serves as a supplement for domestic connections and as a low-cost airline location. The airport is built on an area of 20,000 Rai (32.37km²) north of Bangna-Trad Road (km 15) and is 25 kilometers from Bangkok.
getting there
By train
The city of Bangkok is connected to the airport by the Airport Rail Link connected. The connection starts at Phaya Thai station. There is only the City Line Commuter, which takes 30 minutes from Phaya Thai Station to the airport. Further stations are: Ratchaprarop, Makkasan, Asoke, Ramkhamhaeng, Hua Mak, Ban Thap Chang and Lat Krabang. The fare is between 15 baht and 45 baht. The express service has stopped operating since 2015. The Airport Rail Link operates from 6:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.

By bus
The airport has a bus terminal, but it is not located directly at the airport terminal! But there is a free shuttle bus from the airport terminal to the bus terminal. Since these are mostly so-called minibuses, traveling with large luggage is impractical or requires a second seat and thus double the fare. The following buses, among others, leave the bus terminal in the direction of Bangkok:

- 552 - Suvarnabhumi Airport ↔ On Nut BTS Station
- 553 - Suvarnabhumi Airport ↔ Samut Prakan

There is also Long-distance buses which have a stop in front of the airport terminal. Some connections are offered, including to Pattaya and Jomtien, e.g. the 389 "Airport Pattaya Bus". This bus line runs every hour on the hour from the airport (Level 1, Gate 8) directly to the office to Jomtien and vice versa.
With the taxi
Taxis deliver their passengers for departure on level 4. Taxis for the journey into the city can be found on level 1 near exits 4, 7 and 8. In addition to the fare, the driver charges 50 baht airport surcharge, which he then passes on to the passenger as well as the tolls. If you grab a vehicle somewhere out of turn and haggle over fares, you should agree on both of these cost items.
By car
Counters for 4 car rental companies (AVIS, Budget, Hertz and Thai Car Rental Association) can be found on level 2 at exit 8. Several limousine service counters are located on level 2.
Airlines and Destinations
Numerous airlines offer connections to Suvarnabhumi from Germany. Airlines such as Lufthansa or Thai Airways fly directly to Bangkok from Frankfurt or Munich. Other options are e.g. the golf airlines (Emirates / Etihad), which also connect Hamburg, Düsseldorf or Berlin via transfer connections.

The check-in is on level 4.
Level 4 has 10 entrance doors. Behind it are the check-in counters (i.e. 10 double rows) which are used for check-in. As a rule, the individual airlines have their own areas. Right across from the entrance doors are information boards that provide information on which airline is handling which counter.
For the security check, you take the escalator up one floor and then take the escalator to the IMMIGRATION on level 4.
Connection between terminals
There is currently only one terminal at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
However, there are plans to build another terminal south of the existing facility. The terminals are to be linked by an automatic passenger transport system.

As a special souvenir, there are products that come from the region. A specialty are orchids that survive the flight home well packaged if it is not too cold at the home airport.
Practical advice
- WiFi: In cooperation with TRUE, WLAN is offered for 120 minutes at the airport. You register yourself On-line. But at the beginning of May 2014 this didn't seem to work, you could get printed access codes at the information desks between the concourses. The code only authorizes surfing for 60 minutes.
- Internet: There are 126 Internet kiosks that are available for free use. Passengers can use the high-speed Internet to receive or send e-mails or to search for information. Use is free of charge for 15 minutes, after which the system logs out automatically. Logging back in should enable further use.
- post: Post Service is offered in Concourse G Level 2.
kitchen
If you want to eat and drink comparatively cheaply, you can do this on the lowest level on which the Airport Link is located. There is a small selection of shops and simple restaurants (Thai, Japanese, and a subway branch). This also represents a good alternative to the fairly decent prices of the airport hotel, whose access tunnel also ends exactly there. So you get in the small, nice restaurant Twin time With 8 tables in addition to your own free WiFi, a meal from 120 THB and a jug (jug) of Leo beer on tap for 199 THB (a simple glass of Singha in the airport hotel can be booked for 220 THB).
The third level of the airport building between the arrival and departure halls is the “food court” and houses a number of restaurants and food stands.

The hotel can be reached either via the free shuttle service (level 2, exit 4) or on foot (duration 5 minutes) via an air-conditioned connecting tunnel between the airport terminal (level B1) and the hotel. At the end of the tunnel there is access to the AirportLink and also some inexpensive restaurants (see kitchen) as well as a 7-Eleven branch.

There are other hotels in the area within a range of approx. 2 kilometers. It is advisable to take a look at various search engines or hotel portals. There you can usually sort by distance.
