Pisa airport

The Pisa airport is located in Tuscany and is about 4 km from the center of Pisa away.

background

Pisa Airport, named after Galileo Galilei, has long been the domain of low-cost airlines. Due to its favorable location and accessibility, it has developed into the busiest airport in Tuscany, which is now also served by conventional carriers.

getting there

By train

The airport train station - with a direct connection to Florence - was closed in 2013. The railway line was replaced by the "PisaMover", which offers a shuttle service to the Pisa Centrale railway station, approx. 2 km away. Tickets for 2.70 euros are available in the train station resp. in the airport on the platform.

On foot

If you also want to save that (or free up space on the plane next to you), you can walk about two and a half kilometers. From the station building on the right, then the next big street over the tracks, straight ahead. The way to the airport runs through the less shady and otherwise rather boring architecture of the southern suburbs of Pisa.

By bus

You can get to the airport from the center by bus (LAM red). There are also two companies that run shuttle buses from Florence to Pisa. to offer. In 2016 the buses cost EUR 7.50 and EUR 6.

With the taxi

A taxi to downtown should cost around 10 euros - "nearby" destinations like the train station a little less, destinations on the other side of the city accordingly more.

In the street

The airport has one exit and is located directly on the expressway with the melodious name "Strada di Grande Communicazione Firenze-Pisa-Livorno", also known as FiPiLi for short. This is a four-lane expressway that has been developed without intersections and is toll-free as a state road. It has a speed limit of 90 km / h, which you should also consider, the shock absorbers are thankful: like many public systems in Italy, it is not in the best condition. If you want to get to Florence faster, you can take the Autostrada to the north.

Airlines and Destinations

It is served by Lufthansa, Germanwings, Air One, Ryanair, Easy Jet (Hamburg), Wizzair, Norwegian, Transavia and Delta Airline, among others.

The airport isn't that big either. Everything is within walking distance.

kitchen

There are some snack bars and self-service restaurants in the terminal building. The pizza there is stickier than outside, the pasta is colder and twice as expensive. You won't have to starve to death at the airport, but the range on offer is miles away from even an average kitchen.
