The special features of the place are the numerous hot gas and steam outlets (Fumaroles) and the hot springs.

Cooking in the hot bottom of the caldeiras
This is one of the typical offers in Furnas Cozido das Furnas, a dish made from vegetables, meat, sausages and potatoes, or in various variations depending on the restaurant. Usually, a large pot is buried in the hot volcanic soil for several hours, covered with a cloth, in such a way that the hot sulfur vapors can easily reach the ingredients.
