Gadamés - Gadamés

The city of Gadames is located in Libya and its historic center was declared UNESCO World Heritage for the cultural and historical wealth it represents. The city is mainly inhabited by Berbers and is frequently visited by Tuareg desert nomads. The city certainly dates back to an earlier time in the Roman one. The characteristic of this region of Libya is its light colored buildings, this is due to the high temperatures that are found in this area near the desert. Part of the old city is built underground and the old buildings are surrounded by palm trees, Ghadames is indeed a thriving desert oasis.
