Gernsheim is a city in Hessian Ried.

Gernsheim is an old town that was granted town charter in the Middle Ages and was equipped with a castle and town wall. Today, the city on the Rhine is primarily a stopover for day trippers along the Rhine Cycle Route.
The small town of Klein-Rohrheim and Allmendfeld, a re-establishment from the time of National Socialism and the youngest village in Hesse (founded in 1937), still belong to Gernsheim today.
