The Lorette-Rochefort Grotto is a stalactite cave in the city Rochefort in Belgium in the province Namur.
background
The grotto was discovered in 1865 and explored since 1870. It is a vertical grotto, which means you descend to the course of the Lomme 180 meters below the surface of the earth. The stalactites are very bizarre, e.g. the "curtains" are often seen. In the almost 90 m high Salle du Sabbat, the visitor is offered a light and sound show, and a small hot air balloon that rises in the grotto illustrates the height of this cave.
getting there
By train
The closest train station is Jemelle on the Brussels-Luxembourg railway line. From there you can take the bus to Rochefort. In Rochefort you follow the signs to the grotto. As an alternative to the bus, you can use the paved foot, riding and cycling path that starts behind the train station. The walk to Rochefort takes about 1 hour.
