Language Slovenian is a South Slavic language, used in Slovenia and also by small (5%) Slovenian language minorities in the south of Carinthia (Kärnten in Austria) and in Istria (around Gorizia and Trieste, Italy). We can find similarities with the Croatian and Serbian language, as we can find for example in French, Italian or Portuguese, although Latin languages are still different.

The peculiarity of the Slovenian language is the "duel", which does not usually exist in modern European languages but which did exist in ancient Greek. The "duel" is used to designate 2 people, 2 objects or animals. The plural starts from 3.

Slovenian has 3 genders, masculine, feminine and neutral. Five tenses for verbs. Six cases which involve the declension of substantives, adjectives and pronouns.

Alphabet and pronunciation

The Slovenian alphabet has 25 letters. The consonants Q, W, X, Y do not exist. However, there are letters like č, š or ž. The "v" can sometimes be pronounced like the "u" that is to say "or" but do not panic like in French, there are deformations which will not prevent you from being understood by the very Slovenian citizen. understanding and always ready to help you;).

P, p = "little" as in "fear"

R, r = "re" as in "retour", the "r" is rolled in Slovene as in some regions of France

T, t = "t" as in "tour"

U, u = "or" as in "soft"

V, v = "veu" as in "come", except at the end of a syllable or before a vowel, eg: "triglav" (triglaouw) but "kava" (coffee) (kava) or also "or" like "v sobi" (in the room) (or ssobi)
