Understand

Colourful subtropical vegetation in early summer bloom in Gümüşlük

Gümüş translates "silver" in Turkish, hence Gümüşlük being "the place of silver". Thanks to strictly enforced building prohibitions, the seafront has kept its original and photogenic fishing village charm.

Lying on the western tip of Bodrum Peninsula, Gümüşlük is renowned for the beauty of its sunsets over the horizon in the Aegean Sea.

Get in

Gümüşlük lies about 20-25 minutes from Bodrum, and you can take a minibus (dolmuş) for 6 TL to the 1 bus station.

Gümüşlük is also connected on the dolmus route to Turgutreis and Yalikavak. The bus to Turgutreis runs very frequently.

See

Gümüşlük and the Rabbit Island
  • 1 Myndus. Gümüşlük stands on the site of the ancient Carian city of Myndus whose seafront sections slid into the sea in some long-forgotten earthquake. Today these barely submerged remains are a magnet for snorkellers and underwater photographers. The land site is yet to be fully excavated, but traces of antiquity can be spotted in empty fields, sounding an evocative echo of a distant age. Myndus (Q18823111) on Wikidata Myndus on Wikipedia
  • 2 Rabbit Island (Tavşan Adasi), It is in the middle of the bay and used to be accessible by a partially sunken causeway. The island is surrounded by a fence. It is not accessible.
