Guestrow is a city in the middle part Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, about 40 kilometers south of Rostock. The city also calls itself Barlachstadt.

The artist Ernst Barlach (1870–1938) lived and worked for the last 30 years of his life in Güstrow, which the community pays tribute to with the addition of the name Barlachstadt. One of his most important works is bronze sculpture The floating one, a memorial for the dead of the First World War, in Güstrow Cathedral. Other works by the artist are in the Güstrow Gertruden Chapel, which is used as the Barlach Museum, and in his former studio on the Inselsee.
