The Hagener Hauptbahnhof is an important train station for that Sauerland. In the direction Ruhr area However, it stands in the shadow of the main train stations Dortmund and Bochum.

With 30,000 passengers a day, it can get tight at peak times at the train station, which has had a reception building since 1910. The pictured glass window decorates the entrance to the station concourse. As one of the few train stations in North Rhine-Westphalia, Hagen Hauptbahnhof was not completely destroyed in the Second World War.

The building was actually supposed to be completely renovated for Ruhr.2010 - originally even until the 2006 World Cup. However, the plans were only partially implemented. A new start has been scheduled for 2014.

getting there

The main station can be reached via the B 7 and B 54. If you want to park your car there, you will find a multi-storey car park from Q-Park under the station forecourt.

Almost all bus lines operated by Hagener Straßenbahn AG serve the Hauptbahnhof (main station) stop. From there it is only 50 meters to the entrance. There is also a taxi stand (at the end of the street "Am Hauptbahnhof") which is roughly between the bus stop and the entrance. In addition, international long-distance buses stop in the street "Am Hauptbahnhof". The inner-German long-distance bus lines have been stopping in the Hagen Nord district at Loxbaum since the beginning of 2014.

The main station is connected to a wide network of cycle paths with the NRW cycle network. Cyclists can only expect a couple of covered stands between the bus stop and the train station entrance next to the taxi rank. On the other side of the square there are also uncovered places. Unfortunately there are no special waiting rooms on the tracks. In the station hall there is seating in a "glass box". Otherwise, there are many benches on the station forecourt, some of them covered, and of course the benches on the tracks.
