Halchani is a small town (or a big village) in the Hrodna voblast, in Belarus. The village is best known for the ruins of its castle.
Understand
Since at least the end of the 14th centurye century, Holszany was the seat of the Holszanski princes, a powerful family of which many present-day monarchs are descendants by Sophie de Holszany, queen consort of the Poland. After the death of the last male members of the family in the middle of the XVIe century, the property was inherited, by marriage, from a member of the Sapieha family. It was under the princes of Sapieha that the buildings that currently attract tourists were constructed.
