Historical circular route Timmel - Historischer Rundweg Timmel

The Historical circular route Timmel is an educational trail through the historic center of Timmel in the East Frisian local community Großefehn. In the village itself, in addition to the church, the former nautical school and seven Gulf houses are under monument protection.[1]

description

The historical circular route is intended to convey to tourists and locals the local building history, the life and economy of the residents of the East Frisian village of Timmel, and at the same time provide an insight into the historical building culture of Northern Germany that goes beyond the local heritage.[2] In addition to typical East Frisian buildings such as Gulfhöfen, the church and the former nautical school, which is rather unusual for an inland town, are listed.

The route can be walked both individually and as part of a guided tour. Was accompanied by Großefehn Tourist and Local History Association a map with a brief description was issued in which the course with the individual stations is explained.[3]

history

In 2007, on the occasion of the 175th anniversary of the pharmacy in Timmeler Löwen-Apotheke, a guided walk through historic Timmel was carried out for the first time. A selection of the historical buildings of the place was presented on this. The tour was the reason for the formation of the volunteer working group Historical circular route Timmel in the traffic and homeland association Großefehn. He developed an extended route on which 26 historical buildings are now presented,[3] which shape the appearance of the place with its around 900 inhabitants.[4]

The circular route was opened on May 11, 2008.[5]
