History

Archaeological excavations carried out in Horodło testify to the existence of the stronghold already in the 10th century, the stronghold belonged to the so-called Grody Czerwieńskie. The first mention of Horodło comes from 1287: Włodzimierz, the Duke of Halych, bequeathed "Sieło his Horodel" to his wife.

In 1413, a union was concluded between Poland and Lithuania.

Worth seeing

• church pw. st. Jacek - a post-Dominican temple, built in 1739-58
• A wooden church - a former Orthodox church, rebuilt in 1932 on the site of an earlier wooden Greek Catholic church from 1836. In the temple, it is worth seeing a beautiful rococo iconostasis from the 18th century (it was renovated in 1998).
• Mound of the Union of Horodel - the mound was built in 1861 on the 448th anniversary of signing the act of the Polish-Lithuanian Union. In 1924 it was renovated and raised.
