Inversnaid is a small town on Loch Lomond that consists of little more than a hotel, a bunkhouse and a small ferry pier. He is known in Scotland for his popular poem, among other things Inversnaid of the poet Gerard Manley Hopkins.

getting there

The only road to Inversnaid leads from Aberfoyle (about 20 miles, 32 km) across Stronachlachar (8 miles, 12 km) through the Trossachs. The last stretch down to Inversnaid is very steep.

Inversnaid is dated Post bus approached.

There is also one Passenger ferry between Inversnaid and Inveruglas on the west bank.

Tourist Attractions

  • Rob Roy's View A lookout point near the road a little above Inversnaid. Nice view over Loch Lomond.
  • Rob Roy cave The cave can be reached by walking about a kilometer from the West Highland Way North follows. A sign marks the junction of the short path to the rocky shore. Here you have to follow the marking written in white directly on the rock Rob Roy Cave Keep an eye out to find the hidden cave. The hole formed by large boulders served as a hiding place for robber Rob Roy, a member of the outlawed MacGregor clan. Rob Roy is known as the Robin Hood of the Highlands.

Inversnaid lies in the middle of the part of the east bank that is not accessible. You can only get ahead on foot West Highland Way possible. Until after Rowardennan in the south it is approx. 20 km. To the north you reach a place on the lake shore after approx. 15 km, where you can catch a ferry during the day (except during the lunch break) Ardlui can be ordered by hoisting a signal balloon. Ferry cost: £ 3 per person, minimum 2 people. After another 5 km you come to a camping site, which offers access to the A82 via a bridge.
