Ipoem is a village in the city of Itabira and belongs to the Gold Circuit and Estrada Real Circuit located in the Central region, about 86 km from the capital in the stretch between Ouro Preto and Diamantina, one of the most important branches of the Estrada Real that connects Minas Gerais to Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Bahia.
Until 1943, it was known as the Aliança district and before that it was also called Estalagem and Pouso Alegre.
It is sought after for its natural beauties, mainly for its waterfalls, but also highlights the Museu dos Tropeiros, which since April 2, 2003 has brought together around 700 objects related to the drovers and holds themed exhibitions.
