Japanese Alps (日本 ア ル プ ス Nihon Arupusu) is an ensemble of several mountain ranges in the middle of Honshua. Virtually all of Japan’s highest mountains except the highest, Fujia, located in the Japanese Alps.

Regions

The Japanese Alps are usually divided into three parts.

  • Northern Alps (北 ア ル プ ス Kita Arupusu), also known as the Hida Mountains (飛 騨 山脈 Hida-sanmyaku)
  • Central Alps (中央 ア ル プ ス Chūō Arupusu), also known as the Kiso Mountains (木 曽 山脈 Kiso-sanmyaku)
  • Southern Alps (南 ア ル プ ス Minami Arupusu), also known as the Akashi Mountains (赤石 山脈 Akashi-sanmyaku)
