Jurmala, at 20 km of Riga, is a famous seaside resort of Latvia, once frequented by Russian apparatchiks.

Understand

Magnificent wooden houses served as a holiday resort. The beach of 40 km long, and 300 meters wide is magnificent with its fine white sand and its forest on the edge. There are hardly any constructions by the sea. The water is rather warm for the Baltic, because Riga and Jurmala are in a gulf fed by 3 rivers which are warmed in the sun of the long summer days.

It is possible to bathe in summer. The water is not very clear, but this opacity is more due to the sandy nature of the region than to any pollution.
