The Kakadu National Park actually belongs to the Aborigines. It was leased from them by the Australian state. In the rainy season, large areas of the park are flooded.

Swimming is prohibited in many of the park's waters due to the risk of a crocodile attack. Please pay attention to the warning signs. Unfortunately, one sees time and again people ignoring them and thereby provoking accidents. If you find out a little about crocodiles in advance or go on observation tours, you can only see what these animals are capable of. Information on safe places to swim can be obtained from the visitor centers.
