Types of campsites

  • wild camping - Not allowed everywhere, but in some countries (for example Scandinavia) this is the most natural thing in the world. Wegwijzer vzw made an extensive file about it: you can download it at http://www.wegwijzer.be/dossier/wildkamperen-in-europa
  • Nature camping - Camping in a nature reserve with only basic facilities such as sanitary facilities. Usually managed by the manager of the nature reserve.
    • Hiker's hut - A small permanent accommodation in a nature reserve with only the basic facilities such as sanitary and cooking facilities. Freestanding or in small groups. Strictly speaking not a tent, but still close to camping. Usually also managed by the manager of the nature reserve.
  • Camping at the farmer - A farmer opens up a site for campers. The farm can often be visited and is an extra attraction,
  • Family campsite - The most famous shape. For tent and caravan. Facilities from simple to very extensive. Shop, swimming pool, tennis court, electrical connection etc.
  • Seasonal camping - caravan, mobile home or cottage to be used from spring to autumn during weekends and holidays.
  • Nudist camping - Naturist variants of all the above forms are also available in many countries. Campsites where wearing clothes in public is not allowed.
