Cappadocia - the historical land in the central one Turkey and the central part Anatolia, known primarily for its characteristic tuff forms that make up the lunar landscape, and for houses and churches carved into these volcanic rocks. Until the Middle Ages it was an important center of Christianity and the birthplace of the idea of monastic life.
