- Ilebus (former Port-Francqui) - Located in the highest navigable part of the Kasai River. Accessible by ferry from Kinshasa.
- Kananga - Located at 634 m a.s.l. on the Lulua River, it is one of the largest commercial, agricultural and industrial centers in the country.
- Mbuji-Mayi (former Bakwanga) - Capital of the province of Eastern Kasai. Together with Tshikapa it is one of the two main centers of the diamond industry.
