Kelowna (Indian for grizzly bear), is the eighth largest city in British Columbia with almost 120,000 inhabitants and the largest on Okanagan Lake. Kelowna shows above-average growth, the population has increased by over 50% in the last 20 years. The warm climate attracts tourists and retirees alike, it is similar to the Mediterranean climate in Europe and therefore offers an excellent basis for wine and fruit growing there. The lake is a popular water sports area.

In the street
Highway 97 crosses the city in a north / south direction. This route takes you to the north via Highway 1 into the Rocky Mountains, and to the south along Lake Okanagan to the USA. Highway 33 leads southeast into the Monashee Mountains and the ski areas located there. Vancouver is accessed via Highway 97C, which joins Highway 97 west of the city.
