Kirkland Lake is a city in Timiskaming District the Canadian province Ontario with 8,248 inhabitants.

background

Kirkland Lake is a gold rush town, it owes its existence to the discovery of gold in 1911. The place got its name from a nearby lake. Even today, the region, like Kirkland Lake itself, is characterized by gold mining. Smaller mines can be found everywhere, often with much larger mountains of spoil. And gold mining is still a great employer. In the early days of the professional ice hockey league NHL, a number of ice hockey greats came from the place, which made the place famous and ultimately led to the establishment of a museum. The parishes of Swastika, Chaput Hughes, and Harvey Kirkland also belong to Kirkland Lake.
