Korsør is a city in Denmark.

background

Until December 31, 2006, Korsor was an independent municipality. Up until this point in time, the municipality comprised the town of Korsør with the northern districts of Halsskov and the districts of Vemmelev, Frølunde and Sevenstrup.

In connection with the local government reform on January 1, 2007, Korsør became part of the new large municipality NySlagelse.

The first written mention of the name Korsør goes back to the year 1241. On November 26th, 1425, Korsør was granted town charter by King Erik of Pomerania. The urban development was mainly determined by the location, as the shortest connection over the Great Belt to Funen. It also became an important ferry port.

Since the opening of the Great Belt fixed link in 1998, ferry traffic has been suspended except for the ferries to Langeland.

Due to its location on the Great Belt, seafaring plays its corresponding role in urban development.

getting there

The railway station is on the main traffic axis Copenhagen - Frederica and all intercity trains stop there. The railway reached Korsør in 1847. The first station was on the headland of Halsskov Odde. In 1907 the station was relocated to the port of Korsør, because the protected harbor enabled better loading possibilities for the ferry traffic, at the end 3 loading bridges were set up for the railway ferry service. With the opening of the tunnel under the Great Belt in 1997, the station was shut down, while the large track field was converted to bypass parking. The main station building was renovated and now serves as the headquarters of ScanCom International A / S. The new station is now outside, north of the city of Korsør and is integrated into the national IC network of the Danish State Railways. Although the train station has been relocated, there are good bus connections into the city.

The Motorway E 20 passes north of the city, after exit 43 the toll booth for the Storebælt bridge immediately follows. Here you had to change to a ferry in the port of Halsskov until the opening of the bridge in order to cross the Great Belt. Of course, motor vehicles were also loaded onto ferries in the port of Korsør itself. But in contrast to the port in Korsør, here in the port of Halsskov you can see the traces of the ferry time even better. Arriving by car is not a problem. Exit number 43 is north of the city center.

The journey with own ship is possible, there is a guest port available.
