Kuakata is at the southernmost tip of Bangladesh.

Locally known as Sagar Kannya (Daughter of the Sea) is a rare scenic beauty spot on the southernmost tip of Bangladesh. Kuakata in Latachapli Union under the Kalapara Police Station of Patuakhali district is about 30 km in length and 6 km in breadth. It is 70 km from Patuakhali district headquarters and 320 km from Dhaka. At Kuakata, the excellent combination of picturesque natural beauty, sandy beach, blue sky, a huge expanse of the water of the bay and evergreen forest is really eye-catching.

Kuakata is one of the rarest places which has the unique beauty of offering the full view of the rising and setting of crimson sun in the water of the Bay of Bengal in a calm environment. That perhaps makes Kuakata one of the world's unique beaches. The long and wide beach at Kuakata has a typical natural setting. This sandy beach has gentle slopes into the Bay of Bengal and bathing there is as pleasant as is walking or diving.

Get in

There exists road communication between Dhaka and Patuakhali district headquarters. Accessible by road, water or air transport up to Barisal. Then one may travel by road or water to Kuakata or Patuakhali.

Getting in Kuakata is a 2 phase journey. first one is from DHAKA to BARISHAL. There are launch & bus service available for this journey.The 2nd phase is to travel from BARISHAL to KUAKATA. There are some bus service available in the Barishal Launch Port. These buses render daily trip to KUAKATA. This trip takes about 5-6 hours due to bad road condition. In this 2nd phase trip there are 5 Ferries.

  • Sunrise & Sunset' point on the beach.
  • Jhaubon, alongside the beach.
  • Lemur Char, accessible by Motorcycle & Zip-car.
  • Fatrar Dip, accessible by Boat & Trawler.
  • Misripara - Rakhain Village. It contains a Buddhist Temple which has a statue of Buddha of about 30 feet high. The road communication to this village is not good though. Motorcycle is the only good choice of transport to visit here.
  • Rakhain Market near the beach.


“Shagor konnya"(daughter of sea)'Kua'-the Bengali word for "Well" which was dug on the sea shore by the early Rakhine settlers in quest of collecting drinking water in eighteenth century (1784) after being expelled from Arakan (Myanmar) by the Mughals. Hindu and Buddhist communities. 18 kilometres (11 mi) long and 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) wide Buddist temple, tribal villages of Rakhain along with their lifestyle and handicrafts/Rakhain Market, two wells of 200 years oldboth sunrise and sunset, ancient boat, bikes to rent to go sightseeing, Labu Bagan/Lebur Chor, kakrar chor, Gongamati held in reserve jungle, Coconut Forest, Jhau Forest, Gongamati Reserved Forest, an evergreen mangrove forest/Ganga Motir Char/ Island, Paira Port, Baul Songs at the beach,Motor Cycle. One bike can carry two visitors/travelers. A complete package for 15 site seeing will cost BDT 630 for two person.You will see thousands of small Lobsters running all over the beach if you go at very early morning.Tempu (A local engine vehicle) to visit Kakra beach if you are 5 or more. The journey on Tempu is also very enjoyable & you'll surely enjoy the roadside views there.Buddist temple, Largest Buddha statue in Bangladesh. There is another Buddha statue made of Bronze, a very expensive one. This one is kept in a Pagoda near Rakhain Market.
