Understand

A poem by Lauri Johannes Pesonen, which can be found in the eighth Kärsämäki village book edited by Asta Kemi, Kärsämäki village in the middle of Finland:

You go west from Kajaani

or east of Kokkola,

if you come south from Oulu,

you can't fit anything in it

not every road

ain vie there,

Miss´ locality best lie:

they will lead you to Kärsämäki.

It's here in Lapland

just a stone's throw away.

and to Helsinki if the passage takes place,

it is good to continue here.

No wonder lie

if every road

the sun also takes away from Kärsämäki,

You can then have them come or go.

If you are interested in China

or the American people,

so the itinerary appropriately

also visit Kärsämki.

Here's every road

also takes you there,

where´ the nation is a soot black lie.

Roads from Kärsämäki lead directly there.

That all roads lead to Rome

it is the truth of the past,

but before it exceeds

they border the Kärsämäki.

I saw every road

I guess it takes me to Rome,

but Kärsämäki first lie.

They lead through Kärsämäki to Rome!

Sports and exercise have traditionally been things close to the hearts of the residents, which is largely the result of the efforts of the active sports club Kärsämäki Kataja and the municipality. A new sports field with tartan coatings and artificial turf was being opened in the municipality in 2006. In addition, the sports park will be increased by a new sand field, trough, tennis court, skateboard area and a modern sports hall at Frosterus School (central school) in the immediate vicinity. The municipality also has an indoor swimming pool. In addition to the sports park, there are also tennis courts in the municipality in the Suomela camping area and Rannankoulu (village association field). In winter, in addition to the sports park, there are skating rinks and paddocks in the schools of Venetpalo, Rannankylä, Saviselä and Miiluranta. There are ski trails in the municipality in Venetpalo, where there is also a ski lodge and the actual racetracks (5, 3 and 1 km), Suomela (1.2 km lighted and 12 km long Hatuperä loop), Ruhankangas (6 km) and all schools. There are five orienteering maps, the production and use of which is the responsibility of Kärsämäki Kataja's orienteers (Kokonperä, Ruhankangas, Venetpalo, Saviselkä and Kirkonkylä).

Kirkonkylä has a library with lending stations in Saviselä and Miiluranta. Various exhibitions are held in the library. The municipality also has a local history museum next to the sports field, a youth house in the center of Poppeli, the Sports Club Kataja Sports House, which is a widely known dance venue, and the Saviselä multipurpose building in Saviselä.

The most important natural attraction is located in the southern parts of the municipality Nurmesjärvi, which is a well - known bird body. You can also get to know the Kärsämäki nature well on the Ruhankangas nature trail.
