Tourist Attractions

  • Gesslerburg. The first lords of the castle were the nobles of Küssnacht. Knight Eppo relentlessly demanded taxes, levies and compulsory labor, so that in 1302 the villagers of Küssnacht, Immensee and Haltikon attacked him and almost robbed him of his life. With Rudolf Brun, who was involved in the Zurich guild revolution in 1336, the male line died out. His coat of arms, the white pillow in the red field, has become the coat of arms of the Küssnacht district. According to the oldest tale game in Uri and the conviction of the historian Tschudi, Vogt Gessler had his seat at the castle in Küssnacht, which has since been referred to as the Gesslerburg.
  • Hollow Alley. The Hohle Gasse, located in the heart of Switzerland, is an important historical memorial. The Swiss national hero Wilhelm Tell is said to have shot Bailiff Gessler in Hohlen Gasse, as the chronicler first reported in the White Book of Sarnen. A “Heilig Hüsli”, later a chapel, was built to commemorate this. It connects Küssnacht and Immensee and originally formed part of the route Zurich – Zug – Immensee – Küssnacht – Flüelen – Gotthard.
  • Astrid Chapel. The Queen Astrid Chapel is located between Küssnacht and Merlischachen. It was built in memory of the Belgian Queen Astrid, who died in a car accident at this point in 1935. For safety reasons and in the course of traffic safety, the chapel was relocated to the lower side of the street, on the lakeshore, in 1960.

activities

  • Seebodenalp. At around 1000 meters above sea level, a fantastic view of Mount Pilatus and the foothills of the Alps awaits you, at the foot of the Rigi. On the Rigi you will find a diverse hiking and winter sports area. On clear, sunny days you can enjoy the view as far as Germany from Rigi-Kulm.
