Tourist Attractions
- Catholic Church, in L’Orient. The first island community can be traced back to the year 1724 with written sources. A church formed the center of the cemetery in L’Orient. In 1820 it fell into disrepair and was rebuilt with financial support from the Swedish governor Norderling. Between 1860 and 1870 a new church was built from hewn stone quarders. These stones were broken in a quarry in Petite Cul-de-Sac and brought to L’Orient by ship. It was restored in 1940, and in 1974 it was badly damaged in an earthquake. This damage was repaired from 1982 to 1989. The church is very simple, with two stained glass windows on either side of the altar. The baptismal font is a conch shell. The roof construction is remarkable. Inside it looks like an overturned rowboat.
- The bell tower, also made of hewn stones, with a wooden roof stands a few meters apart. There are three bells under its roof.
