Laborie is a city in Saint Lucia.

background

Also this fishing village was probably founded by the French who made it Ilet-a-carret called. In 1763 there were only about a dozen houses, in 1775 there were already 81 plantations in the area. The hurricane in 1780 destroyed all the houses. Around 1780 the church was rebuilt by the then governor (1784–1789), the Baron de Laborie. In his honor the whole place was named after him. In 1839 the place received its first school through the Lady Mico Trust, in 1873 a Catholic school was added.

  • Balenbouche river. From the mouth of the river you can walk upstream in the shallow water for around 40 minutes and watch birds.
  • Balenbouche Canal. This water channel originally supplied the plantation's sugar mill. The canal runs over the plantation and partly over a 7.5 meter high dam.
  • Saltibus waterfall. This hiking trail starts around 7 km from the coast directly north of Saltibus. You have to plan 2-3 hours for the moderately difficult hiking trail. The trail is maintained by the St. Lucia Forest Department in collaboration with the tourist guides in Saltibus. A fee has to be paid for the use of the trail and the guides.
  • Devil's Bridge on the River Doree. The river Doree flows into the sea 1 km northwest of the Balenbouche Plantation. There you will find some old ruins and access to the Anse Touloulou bay via a narrow path. You can either hike up the river for 45 minutes from the main road or drive up the side road. At a narrow point, the Teufelsbrücke crosses the river at a height of 15 m. You can swim there and there is a picnic area next to it.
