Lalitpur, also known by the name Patan, is the fourth largest city Nepal and lies in Kathmandu Valley.

The town Lalitpur borders the Nepalese capital immediately to the south Kathmandu, the dividing line is marked by the river Bagmati. Both cities are surrounded by a joint road ring.
Lalitpur is also the capital of the district of the same name. The city has grown rapidly: in 1981 it had around 80,000 inhabitants, in 2001 there were more than twice as many, and by 2021 it is expected to have over 300,000 inhabitants. Lalitpur looks back on around 2000 years of history, it was for a long time one of the three royal cities of the Kathmandu valley and owes its existence to this fact Durbar Squarewho like the two corresponding places of Kathmandu and Bhaktapur to the UNESCO world cultural heritage counts.
