Layou is a city in Saint Vincent.
background
This small fishing village is located 12 km from Kingstown on a sheltered bay on the west coast. Directly south at the mouth of the river of the same name is the Buccament settlement with a few houses, a church and a school. 1,400 m east of the jetty, a road branches off into the Peniston Valley and Vermont.
The Petit Byahaut Bay is an angular bay framed by rocks with a narrow sandy beach, pier, guest house, restaurant and diving school. There are 4 berths there. They cost US $ 15 per night. This amount is credited in the restaurant of the guest house of the same name on the shore when you have a meal.
Buccament Bay, 740 m wide to the south, is separated from Layou Bay by a 500 m wide rocky nose. The Buccament Bay Resort is being built there as a project of national importance. A residential complex run as a 5-star hotel by the Harlequin Hotel Group, which already operates similar hotels in the Dominican Republic, Barbados and Saint Lucia. In addition to villas and bungalows, there will also be 368 hotel rooms, restaurants and bars. Extensive infrastructure measures have been planned for the facility, which is due to open in early 2012. These include an Alaia Wellness Center, the Harlequin Performing Arts Academy, the Liverpool Football Club soccer school, a Pat Cash Tennis Academy, a marina and a water sports center.
getting there
In the street
The place Layou is about 10 km northwest of Kingstown on the main road, the so-called Leeward Highway. The road runs over several hills and sometimes meanders along the slopes in tight curves at a height of 200 m.
Tourist Attractions
- Layou's petroglyphs. The Layou petroglyphs are at the northern exit of the village. On the six meter high stone there is a rock drawing of a face that is framed by triangles. The age of the drawings is estimated to be 1,300 years. Since the petroglyphs are on private land, a tour should be organized by the tourist office, or permission to enter the area should be asked on site. The owner is happy to take visitors there for US $ 2.
