Le Gosier (creole: Gozyé) is a community in Guadeloupe.

Le Gosier was founded in 1792 and is now the largest tourist center on the island, about 7 km from Pointe-à-Pitre. The name comes from the Creole word for pelican. The small island is right in front of the old town center Ilet you Gosier about 600 m from the shore with a small bar and the red lighthouse. The crossing from the pier in front of the Karibea Hotel costs 4-8 €. Along the coast, starting on the western outskirts, many new hotels have been built in recent years. They mainly focus on Pointe de la Verdure.
Bas-du-Fort owes its name to the nearby one Fort Fleur d'Epee. The marina in Bas-du-Fort opened in 1978. In its immediate vicinity there are especially on the peninsula La Pergola many restaurants, bars and supermarkets. The distance between the hotels at Pointe de la Verdure and the Hotel Fleur d'Epée in Bas-du-Fort is only 2.2 km as the crow flies, you have to take detours on the road, so that the distance to the entrance of Marina 4 , 3 km.
The district Mathurin Poucette can be reached from the hotel zone at Pointe de la Verdure via the main uphill road Route de Montauban or Boulevard de Montauban, on the other side of national road 4. The Gosier region consists of a total of 40 individual communities.

- Plage de l'Anse Canot. Public beach with water sports and sailing opportunities. Opposite is the island of Ilet du Gosier, which is approached from here by boat. Access from the beach on Route du Calvaire.
- Plage de la Marina. Beach opposite the marina with a view of the south of Basse-Terre. Deck chair rental, boat rental, jet ski, surfboard, water ski.
- Plage de Petit-Havre. Very popular public beach halfway between Gosier and Sainte-Anne. Many locals come here for picnics and camping, especially on public holidays. The access is from the Route de Dampiere.
- Plage de Saint Felix. This small beach is at the roundabout that leads to the hotels.

In the street
Coming from the airport, take the national road 5 towards Pointe-a-Pitre. At the junction of the bypass (Rocade) of Pointe-a-Pitre, turn left in a westerly direction to the Blanchard exit. There the Rocade turns into national road 4 and here you have already reached Bas du Fort.

The fort is half a mile from the main road. Between the Disco Elysées Matignon and the Cora Lebensmittel there is a small, inconspicuous sign on the driveway. The polygonal fortress, built in the 18th century, with ramparts and moats, is deeper than the surrounding hills. For this reason it was taken from the land side by the British on April 11, 1794.
