Likasi - a city in the province of Upper Katanga in the south-eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Industry: mining of copper and cobalt ores, metallurgy and chemical.
Laurent-Désiré Kabila, the former president of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, was born in Likasi in the Luba tribe. In 1961, the country's former prime minister, Patrice Lumumba, was executed in the city during the Congolese crisis.
