On the southeast coast, this bay is in the Saint Philps district. There you will find one of the most famous buildings on the island, Sam Lord's Castle. The "castle" stands on a rock above Long Bay. Sam Lord had the house built in 1820, and it took three years to build. The builder has a bad reputation. He is said to have hung lanterns in the trees so that the ships would hit a reef there, which he then had robbed.
Four kilometers south is "The Crane". Many stairs lead down the steep coast to the beach. There used to be a shipyard there and supply ships came from Bridgetown. The large crane that unloaded the ships gave the place its name.

In the street
Crane Beach and Long Bay can only be reached on back roads. From Bridgetown, take the dual carriageway to the airport. From there it is 5 km to the village of Kirtons. In Kirtons, behind the gas station, the road branches off to the right. It leads to Crane Beach and from there further near the coast to the northeast to Long Bay, that is another 5 km.
