Loutro is a village in Crete.
background
The village was named after the baths (Loutro = Greek "bath") that were found in the area and from which water was drawn near Anapolis. Among the older buildings that can still be seen here is the old parish building, which was used by the first government in 1821.
The village is one of the few in Crete that is car-free. Due to its location, it can only be reached on foot or by water. All purchases by the residents come by ferry. This also applies to the disposal of garbage.
The village is usually only inhabited from April to September / October. Most of the summer residents spend the rest of the time in Chania or other cities.
