Luiz Alves is a Brazilian municipality in the state of Santa Catarina. It is located at latitude 26º43'14" south and longitude 48º55'58" west. Its estimated population in 2009 is 9,506 inhabitants, but it is believed to exceed 10,000. The city presents beauty in its landscapes, always highlighting nature, taking the title of "O Paraíso Verde do Vale". Luiz Alves is the second largest banana producer in the state, and stands out for the quality of its vegetables, rice and other cultures. Luiz Alves is called "Capital Catarinense da Cachaça".
